These are huge eruptions! The first blast surprised Chilean emergency officials, who were left with only minutes to issue an alert.

Mexico's Colima volcano erupted twice on Wednesday, spewing a 3.5-kilometre-high column of ash that rained down on a nearby city.

The Jalisco state civil protection agency said a "moderate" quantity of ash fell on Ciudad Guzman, a town near the western state of Colima, where the volcano is located.

New webcam video has emerged from Chile observing the Calbuco Volcano eruption during overnight hours.

A massive fountain of lava erupted from Calbuco during the overnight hours, producing additional (ongoing) clouds of ash, and thousands of lightning strikes.

This infrared satellite image taken at 4:30 a.m. Thursday Chilean time (3:30 a.m. EDT in the United States) shows the towering cloud of ash and volcanic debris from the second eruption along with the ash plume from the first eruption.

Ash fallout now being reported to be falling in Argentina - causing closures of airports and emergency orders in the neighboring country to the East.

Thousands of people have been evacuated under emergency orders from the Chilean government due to this large unexpected eruption.

The height of the volcanic ash emitted triggered concerns that the dust could contaminate water, trigger respiratory illnesses and halt more flights.
