There’s a reason why grandpa always warned about being careful around the woodpile. Reptiles love the cover of wood.
But it wasn’t around the woodpile where one Washington, D.C., man met danger. It was after he had already sawed a log in half when he realized there was a slithering creature inside.
Ryan Saunders was sawing a log in half when he realized he got way more than he bargained for. He grabbed his video camera and began recording.
“Oh my God!” Saunders said adding, “I accidentally sawed in half some sort of large snake inside of this log. It is backing itself out. … Holy s–t!”
The snake had truly been divided in two, and part of the snake’s body began to ooze out of the hollowed out tree. While the video isn’t very clear, it seems the head half of the snake came out.
“So I was cutting some trees down today and this happened,” Saunders posted on social media. “We don’t know where the head is! I think it turned around in the tree after I sawed off its head and then I made my second cut and cut it in half again.”
Saunders posted the video, complete with profanity-laced commentary, to Facebook. He never did find the head of the snake, according to comments he made in his Facebook post.
One female friend posted, “Dear Ryan, Thank you for giving me nightmares for the rest of my life. Best, Emily.”
When asked what kind of snake it was, Saunders commented, “I think it’s a black rat snake.”
According to TheBlaze, the video has gone viral and been shared over 2 million times.
It seems snake presence in wood piles is fairly common. As for Saunders, he feels a bit sorry for the snake.
In the comments section of his Facebook post he writes, “We like the snakes, they eat the mice and moles. I just can’t believe this guy’s bad luck.”
