A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Alaska early Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The Alaska quake epicenter hit near Cook Inlet, 162 miles southwest of Anchorage. It was about 50 miles deep. The massive quake follows mysterious booms heard throughout the area before the 2013 quake there.

Joshua Veldstra, a professional photographer who lives in Homer, said the earthquake lasted about 30 seconds.

"When it hit, it was just soft at first, and it just kept getting bigger," Veldstra said. "It was one of those moments where you didn't' know if it was going to get worse or if it was going to calm down."

The quake was felt by residents of Anchorage, but Anchorage and Valdez police said there were no reports of major damage or injury following the earthquake.

There was no tsunami threat from the quake due to the depth it struck, the National Weather Service said.

Two smaller after shocks registering a 4.0 and a 3.2 struck within 30 minutes after the first one.

Big Booms? Days Gone By and Today

KTUU reported in 2013 that residents from Eagle River to Mat-Su Valley in Alaska had heard booms between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thursday January 3 in 2013 for which no causes and sources had been found. Parallel to the booms, houses and furniture in buildings shook.

"Are these shakings small tremors which are too slight to be recorded by seismographs (< 2)? And were these small tremors a sign for the 7.5-magnitude temblor centered about 60 miles west of Craig, Alaska and which struck at 1 a.m in 2013?" asks StrangeSounds.com. Were booms heard before today's quake?

This writer asks if such booms are being heard elsewhere, a possible warning of a big one brewing. Are such booms natural, or possibly US Navy scalar weapon testing, part of its Five-Year Weapon Testing happening today in each major body of water around the United States?
